The completely solar powered boat “3rd Wave” departed
from Flanders Bay on Thursday June 26th, 2003, cruising
around Red Cedar Point into Great Peconic Bay, thru
Shinnecock Canal, across Shinnecock Bay, heading
West under Ponquogue Bridge, thru Moriches Bay, into
Great South Bay. Stopping the first night at Bellport
Yacht Club, Bellport.
The 2nd day continuing West thru Great South Bay.
Stopping the second night at Toomeys Tavern and Marina,
Amityville.
The 3rd day continuing West into Hempstead Bay,
thru Reynolds Channel, Rockaway Inlet into the Atlantic
Ocean. Stopping the third night at Miramar Yacht
Club on Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn.
The 4th day continuing West thru Graves End Bay,
under the Verazano Narrows Bridge, thru Buttermilk
Channel and the East River, heading North and West
under Manhattan's Bridges, thru Hells Gate, past
Rikers Island. Stopping the fourth night at Bayside
Marina in Little Neck Bay in Queens.
The 5th day continuing past City Island into Long
Island Sound. Stopping the fifth night at anchor
in Eatons Neck Cove, Northport.
The 6th day continuing in Long Island Sound past
Smithtown Bay, Old Field Point and Port Jefferson
Harbor. Stopping the sixth night at The Old Mill
Inn in Mattituck Inlet, Southold.
The 7th day continuing in Long Island Sound around
Orient Point. Stopping the seventh night in Orient
Harbor.
The 8th day to Greenport. Stopping the eighth night
in Greenport Harbor.
The 9th day to Shelter Island. Stopping the ninth
night back in Greenport.
The 10th day to Montauk. Stopping the tenth night
off Oyster Pond.
The 11th day continuing around Montauk Point, offshore
in the Atlantic Ocean, thru Shinnecock Inlet, across
Shinnecock Bay passing in front of Ponquogue Bridge
crossing the path followed at the start of the voyage.
Thus completing the first solar electric
powered circumnavigation of Long Island!
